Unless you were born into the people's republic of toorak, with the luxury to splash nepotistic cash whenever you please, it's a wise idea to invest in fairly neutral, timeless shoes. Us proletariats need to resist the temptation to choose bold, on trend styles and colours as we'll probably end up wearing the same shoes for years and getting every penny's worth. When it comes to sneakers a classic lace up with a 1-2cm sole can be paired with almost any outfit; they can be dressed up or down as you please. A great pair of investment sneakers can last you years, choose something you'll still be able to wear as your style changes. Nude, grey or white will make for the best investment.
Common Projects is an Italian/American brand. Their sneakers are made in Italy, primarily out of nappa leather. As a super goofy bitch I'm constantly tripping over my own feet and scuffing my shoes on various surfaces. I've had a pair of CPs for almost a year now and they have been able to withstand said goofiness and are yet to show a single scuff mark. Furthermore they are phenomenally comfortable. It's a lot of cash to splurge at once, but it is really really really worth the investment.

Golden Goose Deluxe Brand is born out of Milan and create purposely distressed leather garments and shoes. GGDB put a great deal of care and effort into distressing their sneakers - the result is an incredibly stylish and comfortable sneaker. Similar to Common Projects you can pair endless garments with these versatile sneakers thanks to the classic sole.
A testament to the comfort is their popularity with international students. At any one time you'll easily spot at least three individuals sporting them on campus.
